Land Clearing in Leander, TX

Leander ground is shallow. In a lot of places there are only a few inches of soil sitting on solid limestone, and that changes what good clearing looks like. A dozer on thin ground does not just take the tree, it takes the soil with it, and once a hill country tract is scraped to rock it does not grow much of anything for a very long time. Forestry mulching leaves the profile where it is and puts the woody material back down as cover. On this ground that difference decides whether the tract greens up next spring or sits bare for years.

Land around Leander has been moving out of ranching and into development steadily, and the raw tracts almost always need opening before anything else can happen. Survey crews cannot read ground under solid juniper, and grading contractors do not want to find the terrain with a blade. The South San Gabriel runs along the north side of Leander and much of the surrounding ground contributes to Edwards Aquifer recharge. Clearing here carries both a sediment consideration and a water one. We mulch anything draining toward the river, hold a buffer back from the channel, and leave bank cover in place. On the uplands, taking juniper off the recharge ground puts more of each rain into the aquifer. The canopy would otherwise return much of it to the air.
